We are totally mad about 2fm presenter Lottie Ryan.
So when she agreed to give us some career inspo for our “Making Ends Meet” series we were pretty excited.
This girl knows what she wants and doesn’t stop working.

Radio and television broadcaster.
That means that I …
At the moment I present ‘Breakfast Republic’ on 2FM with Bernard O’Shea and Keith Walsh, Monday to Friday from 6am to 10am. I also do the entertainment news on the hour, every hour on the station. Recently I was on the RTÉ One show ‘Can’t Stop Dancing’ which is a spin-off show for ‘Dancing with the Stars’.
The three best things about my job that make me jump out of bed in the morning are …
Firstly getting to work with amazing people who I admire. We have the best team on Breakfast – from the lads I present the show with, to our production team, I learn from them all every day and they always make me laugh!
Secondly no two days are ever the same. The very nature of live radio is not knowing what to expect. Each day is different which I love! It keeps you on your toes and pushes you to up your game.
Third – it makes me feel good. My parents always told me as I was growing up to try and make money from something that I’d do for pleasure anyway. In effect, make your hobbies your job if you can! I adore radio and being able to give people a laugh in the morning while also listening to some of my favourite music! It’s a win-win for me!
The three not-so-great things about my job that make me roll over and bury my head in my pillow are …
I have very early starts – 4:30am is when my alarm goes off. It means being in bed early and making sacrifices when it comes to your social life but for me it’s so worth it!
I can’t think of anything else that’s not-so-great?!
I bagged this job by …
… working my ass off! I did a degree in Media Studies and Journalism. I knew I needed good work experience on top of my degree so when I finished college I moved to New York and got a job on the first series of ‘The Good Wife’ – it went on to win a Golden Globe. Then I came home and started getting gigs. You have to put the hard work in to succeed. That’s why I think it’s important to go for things in life that make you happy!
The best advice I could give someone who likes the sound of my job is …
Don’t take no for an answer and never, ever give up. You’ve got to have faith in yourself and enjoy the journey.
Lottie’s interview is definitely inspiring us to think big and not doubt ourselves.
So this week we will be channeling her ambition, hard work, determination and dedication.
… just not at 4.30am …
